I am not surprised that you can't convert an Excel file into an other format such as .meg or .fasta. What kind of data do you have in your excel file? Is it just a list of sequences to align?
If yes, you can open a note pad file (.txt) and you can copy/paste your sequences following a fasta format :
>Individual1
ATGCATGCATGCATGC
>Individual2
ATGCATGCATGCATGC
>Individual3
ATGCATGCATGCATGC
etc.
You save your file and then you change its extension .txt by .fasta. Normally, MEGA is able to read such a file.
NB. Be careful if you copy and paste several sequences from Excel to Note pad, they usually add quotation marks (") that you will have to supress before doing your analysis.
