I want to coat a very hydrophobic carbon based material on the surface of copper current collector for lithium ion batteries. I am using PVDF as a binder and NMP as solvent. The slurry I make is very homogenous but after drying, the electrode material is peeling off from the copper. I have tried materials other than this hydrophobic material and electrodes prepared are fine but with this material i have problems. Can any one has experience of making electrode with extremely hydrophobic material.

You can also try:
- add into slurry carbon black
- change a copper's surfase treatment, for start remove all oil traces by alcaline paste and later by alcohol ( like a treatment before galvanic operations)
- try to use varius PVDF modifications, it can be with different hydrophilic properties.
Thanks guys I would try to modify my copper surface as i cant use carbon black because the idea is to use my hydrophobic material as conducting material.

If possible you can try with aqueous binders or plasma treated foils, they can increase the adhesive and cohesive nature with substrate as well as particles.
Other possibility is you can use carbon coated copper foils they are available commercially. All the best.
