Dear Community,

Happy New Year.

I have obtained the open loop response of my plant which is an Atomic Force Microscopy Piezoelectric Actuator and cantilever (PZT/PTS).

My experimental conditions were

1. I applied a 10mV AC + 1V DC signal at the PZT amplifier (whose gain is 75) obtained an output response from the sensor, and plotted the response as a Bode Plot.

The purpose was to obtain an estimated model of my plant and then use that model to design a Model Predictive Controller to compensate for the nonlinearities (hysteresis, creep effects) of my PZT actuator.

Some questions came to my mind and I am asking here that as the hysteresis effect is introduced in the plant when the amplitude and frequency of applied signal changes, but in the case of open loop response my amplitude remains the same, and only frequency is being changed. Could this open loop response be considered for modeling hysteresis behaviors?

I think the answer will be No, but it's just my assumption please help me and clear my doubts.

Another Question is I have designed a model predictive controller based on my open loop response, now I want to obtain simulation (hysteresis, and closed loop) results of my proposed controller, how can I do this using Simulink Matlab?
