19 December 2016 6 9K Report

I am reading through the Applied Choice Analysis (2nd Edition)* text book (the relevant section is on pages 216-222) and I'm having a little trouble understanding how to calculate this.

I'm currently planning on carrying out a choice experiment to test 5 attributes with 2 or 3 levels each (this will be determined after carrying out some focus groups). My current plan is to use choice cards using two alternatives plus a "no choice" (so three alternatives in total). How do I calculate the amount of choice cards I would need to show each respondent if I use an orthogonal main effects only design? Can anyone with experience using this technique help me understand?

Thanks in advance for any help.
