I have the smart meter data @15mins interval of many consumers. Many literature are suggesting some formulas but it seems to be not generalized. Specifically for smart meter data, base load calculation is not clearly defined.
I would propose the following algorithm:
-The first step is to interpolate the consumption of every subscriber to get the load profile of every subscriber which can be expressed as Pi(t)
This is done as sampling instants may be synchronized.
- Then by summing the load profiles of the individuals one can get the total load profile for the N subscriber
- You can analyse the load profile to get the maximum load or the busy hour load which is used for generation and transmission design.

Load demand or energy use can be divided into base load, intermediate load and peak load. Base load is the load that exists on the grid 24 hours a day. Typically nuclear, hydro and steam thermal, these power plants operate 24 hours a day. The base load represents the first 30% of load curve followed by the intermediate load which represents the 45% after the base load.
