The problem is more complex when these supervisors have high organizational positions. In that case, no one would take the side of a student against a powerful professor, even the eye witnessed, for so many reasons among them being afraid from these people in power.

Talk to your department manager. If you were not successful, try to get the master's satisfaction and do not argue with him.

While the rules protect the students rights at school, many supervisors are unaware of students’ rights, or simply ignore them.
Every student has the right to be recognised as an individual.
Actually, students must be accepted as a faculty member who they are interested in learning and teaching.
In theory, "a teacher cares about student's learning.”
Students have a right to express opinions and to challenge those of the supervisors in a respectful manner.
But, how students can do that? Can we agree that students have the right to expect their opinions or critics will not be reverted against them?
Students and teachers or supervisors have rights. But teachers have more power in the classroom than students, and supervisors have more power than teachers that means faculties have an obligation to protect the rights of students as learners.
Universities have legal and ethical obligations to provide a supportive and safe learning environment for their students.

First of all, I think awareness of the students right is the key, otherwise, there is no talk of protection as the entity would be unknown and baseless. Second, the students should be responsible. Last but not the least, the supervisor ought to be aware and act in accordance to the professional code of conduct.

I would think the term "unfair" would differ from contexts to contexts. In Australia, all Higher degree by research candidates do have an opportunity to raise any questions they have about fairness or otherwise at least twice every year as part of their six-monthly review of performance. I am sure most universities would have similar process. Where I have encountered anything close, it has been more related to candidates expectations of a PhD and the role of supervisors.
This is really a serious issue in academia which may be very difficult to curb, especially where the supposed supervisor is in a high position. There are instances where a supervisor can tell a student that "I am the only person who can let you graduate". An implication that other supervisors are sidelined and their opinions on the students do not matter. Interestingly most of these academics may have gotten nice supervisors during their terminal degrees but may decide to worry students they supervise.
If the student is doing the right thing then I think the higher authorities should be made aware.

Some academicians in some tertiary institutions, when they reach certain positions may not want their students to climb to that level. The reason been that the supervisor may think the mentee may overtake him and wrangle his/her position from him/her in the same University.
In view of that, the students could vote with their feet and when students assessment forms are giving to them, they may write all the negative comments against the lecturer or supervisor concerned.
With these developments around the supervisor, Management may call him/her and diplomatically advise the supervisor. If the counselling fails then Council may end his or her contract with the institution so that the students may be relieved.
