I am testing a technic for the determination of thiomersal, I use a method with dithizone; I put in a test tube a solution of thiomersal and complete to 1ml with water, then I add the reagents which are:

Acetone, dithizone (diluted in acetone and kept cool) and NaOh.

I vortex and read the absorbance on the spectrophotometer at 538nm.

I have a problem with the spectrophotometer reading, it shows several absorbance values.

I have tried adding EDTA to the mixture to try to eliminate the interference, but the spectrophotometer still shows multiple values.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I would like to stabilize this mixture and have only one value displayed on the spectrophotometer to make sure that the results I get are accurate.

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you
