I know BIM could lead to major savings to large complex projects that are difficult to design/manage using traditional methods. But what about housing? I know there will be savings, but by how much? Does it worth to shift towards BIM giving all the expenses attached if those expenses were compared with the potential savings? Are there Real-life examples on this?
Doubtful. Building Information systems are themselves costly. They may provide more information than is useful. Start with a list that buyers/renters are actually interested in. Subtract from that what they learn in a personal inspection. That doesn't leave much for an information system.

From my experience, BIM helps in building models that are almost like the finished products. This helps in making critical decisions concerning things like material selections, feasibility of design, etc. Making the right decisions concerning these issues helps to sometimes avoid costly revisions that could crop up later in the project if the house is not modelled early on in the project.
Thank you all for the answers. I totally understand how BIM could make building more affordable, what I am asking is does it make sense to use BIM for small complex projects. Maybe a good example of this is affordable housing. I am looking for real-life examples.
