So I know that they should approach each other to have best solubility but what is the extent to which they should be close to each other so that considerable amounts are miscible. (like for example a monomer and a polymer derived from it) and what do you think is the best model to explain the solubility parameter. I would be most grateful if someone could give me a valid answer.
For monomeric substances and the solvents you are looking for, the solubility parameter difference can be relatively wide, like 1, and it will still be soluble (pls consider that the solubility parameter is best characterized in 3 dimensions, so each dimension difference can be 1).
The higher the molecular weight of the polymer derived from that monomer, the tighter the difference needs to be otherwise the solvent you are looking for will not any more be able to dissolve that polymer.
