Normally, massive structures like RCC bridges , retaining walls are designed for worst combination of loads acting on them. In addition to required reinforcement for resisting internal forces, temperature and shrinkage reinforcement are also provided. After providing these reinforcements, is there any chance to develop additional internal forces due to change in temperature?

Is there a possibility of large change in temperature suddenly in case these structures?
