We use 0,55% ortho-phthalaldehyde (Cidex OPA) soaking for decontamination of endoscopes used for sampling airways of horses with strangles, Streptococcus equi subsp equi, a bacteria which we detect with PCR. The question came up, can we be sure that bacterial DNA is removed/destroyed so that will not contaminate the sample of the next patient?

Which treatment would you recommend in field practice for an expensive and sensitive equipment as a fiber endoscope?
