This thread is for discussing how "elemental" approaches could be helpful today to renew and develop contemporary social theory. I first etched this line of inquiry int he attached piece, which appeared six years ago. I'm wondering if anybody is working along similar assumptions. Perhaps, more could be done by including contemporary artworks etc. into the discussion.

An interesting perspective, Andrea Mubi Brighenti . Thank you for posing this question. I will read you article with interest. However, I think a theory of the visible, while potentially important, can only be a part of the search for a more general social theory. While the visible surrounds us in our material lives, much of what we strive for, also embraces the invisible. The problem arises in the reconciliation of the two, as we continue to emerge in our collective, social future. While a theory of the visible may provide access to understanding the present and past, it can speak little to our future potential. Here, there is a separation along what I am calling the antagonistic horizon.
Theory is a lens through which we view the phenomena highlighted in research. like we see a statue we can see from many sides, that's the theory. while social theory is a theory that is closely related to social phenomena that occur such as social exchange theory (Thibaut & Kelley, 1959) we see a context of exchange of benefits that occur from the exchange process. besides that theory can be Assumptions, Concepts, Units of analysis, and Relativity in a study. The goal is to strengthen the phenomenon that we raise as a research topic
