If initial reading is a consistent pattern of response to multi-sensory perception, the interactive pattern of both audio and visual percepts should determine, to a large extent, the cognitive profile of a reader. Is this a valid hypothesis in itself?
It seems there is no standard trajectory for reading aqusition. Some children try to lign letters into srings, some try to memorise patterns of whole words, some mix these strategies, some need to pronounce the word to recognize it, some-not. So in paradigme you propose you can only try to identify the strategy, not level of aqusition.

But by mentioning learners' strategy, it seems that we are taking care of something that's observable, which may or may not reflect the reaction pattern of latent variables like that of visual and audio processing rate. So is it impossible that we measure the interactive patterns of these variables?
