I am trying to separate lactic acid via distillation, from the bio-crude I got after performing hydro-thermal liquefaction of biomass. however, it seemed very challenging as always other organic components are being transferred to the distillate. I appreciate if someone can share a procedure to separate lactic acid from the biocrude.

I have carried out hydrothermal liquefaction of biomass several times and wha you get depends on how you do it, and what the catalyst is (if any) but in th variations I have tried I do not recall ever seeing any appreciable lactic acid in the products, so maybe your trouble originate from the fact it isn't there.
