A research deal with space frame structure is located in a seismic area, where the from the important issues that must be taken into consideration in the analysis and design of space frames is the earthquake excitation. The response of the structure to earthquake excitation is dynamic in nature, therefore a dynamic analysis is necessary, even that it’s a complicated issue due to the fact that the amplitude of ground accelerations, velocities, and motions is not clearly determined. Furthermore, the stiffness, mass distribution, and damping characteristics of the structure will have a profound effect on its response: the magnitude of internal forces and deformations.

First you need to calculate the moments and forces exerted on the frame due to the earthquake. This can be done using tow methods.
1- The static method: which is described in most codes of practice such as Eurocode 8 or the FEMA code (USA)
2- The dynamic method: Here you need to use an FEM program, this method is more precise and less conservative than the static method
Then, you can use the applied moments and forces and compare them with the strength of your frame
Please not that this is a very concise explanation of a very complex subject

You can calculate the capacity of 2D or 3D frames by doing a pushover analysis. This type of analysis helps you compare the capacity of the frame with the applied seismic load.
