any way the components should extract with different solvents, starting with non-polar, hexane or petroleum ether, ethyl acetate then 70% methanol. evaporate the solvents, identify the solvents. Check the toxicity of separated components.

First of all you define your work and search literature according to your research. So it is totally depend on which type of compounds you want to isolate if you characterised polar compound so use solvent methanol, ethanol, water otherwise for non polar characterisation use hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, etc and finally prepare the crude and go for data analysis by HPLC, LCMS, GC etc.
