i am planning to perform ultrasonic test on concrete samples and i need the received signal (output signal) to be as sharp as possible; therefore I am trying to find the maximum applicable frequency in which damping is limited to an acceptable level.
The frequency limit depends of the thick of congrete sample you are working in. In our experience for normal work the limit frequency is about 50 kHz. Also is suitable to work in transmission mode, instead of pulse-echo way.
yes Luis but that frequency is mostly applicable when you are trying to measure pressure wave velocity not the case where you are in need of the precise response signal (output).
i have seen tests that have been conducted at the center frequency of 250-500 khz.
Frequency of probes for ultrasonic testing of concrete depends on the size of the specimen as well as the size of aggregate used for making concrete. For 150 x 150 x150 mm concrete cube specimen made with 20 mm maximum size of coarse aggregate, we can use 50 kHz frequency probes.
