In Cucurbits fungal disease can wipe out plants of the entire field, Is Fungicidal spray only a solution? What are the Integrated Disease Management(IDM) practices?
In Russia, in the Urals, in the southern boreal subzone, various phytopathogenic fungi are active on alien Cucurbitaceae. At the same time, for the last 14 years, an experiment has been carried out to identify methods of combating the fungus Stagonosporopsis cucurbitacearum. Against this phytopathogen, three fungicidal preparations are used, which have long been used in southern Russia. However, none of them help in greenhouse conditions, only outdoors. In greenhouses, only the annual turnover of planting helps to get rid of fungus - we cannot plant Cucurbitaceae in the same greenhouse for two years in a row. Oddly enough, while other means do not help to avoid plant infections.
Collection of the plant debris in the end of the season and burn them far from field and applying crop rotation, also can be applied successfully for controlling this disease.
The gummy stem blight is a serious disease of cucurbits, it can spread through the field of cucurbits easily. The causal agent can damage the tissues of the stem at all stages of the plant growth. The control of this disease must be applied before the culture of the plants by seed treatment with a suitable fungicide to obtain a healthy plants.
Gummy stem blight spreads by infected seed and soil. High humidity and moisture combined with moderate warmth encourage fungal (Didymella bryoniae) spore germination. During cool weather or after the incidence of disease, fungicide spray can control it to some extent. But some biological control methods are also in practice at large-scale cultivation.
