There is no free carbon in white cast iron as I know. Am I wrong?
In other cast irons you can calculate free carbon content by microscopic method using microsections without etching.
Or by burning the precipitate in oxygen after dissolution in nitric acid by gas-volumetric, coulometric, infrared spectroscopy methods.
