I am doing non-linear analysis on the shear behaviour of the masonry wall. I have used SOLID 65 element for the modelling of mortar and the brick. CONTACT 174 and TARGET 170 for the brick-mortar interface. The frictional coefficient for head joint is 0.85 and bed joint is 1.2.
The problem i am facing is the adjustment of the contact properties,since it affects the convergence of the analysis, like
1. Normal penalty stiffness
2. Penetration tolerance
3. Contact algorithm
4. Behaviour of contact surface
5. Tangent penalty stiffness
6. Contact cohesion
7. Frictional stress
8. Initial penetration
9. Automatic contact algorithm
Is there any specific way to fix these properties, some mentioned that these properties are based on the experience, but i am new to ansys.

In SAP2000 the problem is easy because of the various of links properties which can be used please you can see the paper titled " Contribution of Non-Structural Brick Walls Distributions on Structures Seismic Responses", and I wait for any help in this filed.
Dear Sandip Adhikar truely speaking ANSYS environment is little bit tough. It very difficult to figure out convergence problem in ANSYS. I will suggest you to work in ABAQUS which is more user friendly as compared to ANSYS. ABAQUS has Plastic damage model which can capture the softening behavior which other FEM software can't. You can look over the paper I attached it will help you.Also I will suggest you the first author of this paper he's very good in this area. You can download his thesis from KFUPM library.
