Its good idea...there are intangible benefits of farming in reducing C foot prints. so farmers have to be credited for that. Some way must be laid out. This will also encourage them to follow more sustainable agricultural practices.
I think the primary financial benefits that accrued to smallholders from participating in these projects are associated with their access to technical information, training and inputs, and not cash payments for carbon. The sustainable land management practices supported by these projects not only increased yields, but diversified incomes, increased fodder and fuelwood production, and enhanced farmers’ resilience to climate change through mprovements in soil health.
It will help farmers only when the government make use of carbon trading and make provision of high incentives for promotion of carbon farming viz. agroforestry, horticulture, organic farming and dairy etc. and ensure premium prices of carbon farming products in sustainable manner.
