I recently came by an article where toluene-ethanol mixture was used in soxhlet extraction. How efficient is this mixture of solvents than using single solvent for extraction?
I think this solvent mixture can dissolve most phytochemical compounds and after extraction process is completed you can obtain two layers by using separatory funnel one is polar (ethanol layer) the other is non polar (toluene) and each contain different compounds
Highly agreed with B.R. Rajeswara Rao. His sending links are really helpful and open many doors regarding correct answer of question. I think after carefully reading of each and every post provided by sending links there will be no need for further answer. Mr. Balaji please read them carefully and if you required more help feel free to ask.
The two solvents forms an azeotropic mixture with a decreased boiling point. After extraction and shaking out with water the unpolaric fraction remains in the toluene.
