How can Gardners' theory of Multiple Intelligence (MI) be used in tailoring e-assessments given that online teaching in its various categories, have come to stay and facilitators have to ensure there is a "human face" while teaching online?
You spotted a relevant issue. I did find a study that relate to this topic:
J. Ángeles Islas et al. (2021).Theory of multiple intelligences applied on teamwork with intervention under Challenge Based collaborative Learning strategy for improvement of online learning.International Journal of Education and Research Vol. 9 No. 2 February 2021, Free access: https://www.ijern.com/journal/2021/February-2021/07.pdf
Of course, assessment should reflect the diversity of intelligences and learning styles in your classroom. For example, students who are good at spatial learning might not display the full range of their knowledge on an essay test. In fact, traditional testing methods are inherently biased in favor of students with strong linguistic and mathematical skills. Advocates of MI theory suggest that teachers supplement their traditional assessment methods with assessment strategies that evaluate student progress in an inclusive, meaningful way.
I think that's why we need varied ways of assessment which can be done in the online environment. Authentic assessment has so many strategies that can span the multiple intelligences.............journals, video creation, making artefacts etc.
The principle supports that every student is unique. Regardless of the type of modality we are using amid pandemic. Howard Gardner theory on Multiple Intelligence promotes differentiated instruction. That means to say that even if our teaching and learning is through Electronic media, we still need to vary our pedagogy to met the needs of each learner. Thank you. Advance happy teachers' day to all.
MI suggests that very person has its strength and weaknesses. Every student has unique skills to learn and to engage in learning, even if we deal with E-learning they still have their way of getting the knowledge, and the best strategy for teachers to follow in this case is Differentied Instructions, so that it responses the students needs.
