Of the various environmental stresses, soil salinity is common abiotic stress and is responsible for a major problems for agricuture, adversely affecting growth, physio-biochemical processes and reduction in crop productivity. plants develop certain mechanisms to mimic the toxic effects of salinity on plants, but at severe conditions plants fail to cope with the effects of salt stress by its own mechanisms. Therefore various stretgies have been employed that help plants to ameliorate the salinity effects. Among the various strategies, application of compatible solutes or osmoprotectants (Proline, glycine betaine, trehalose etc.) and plant growth regulators (GA, SA, BRs, ABA, MJ etc) have gained a significant attention to induce tolerance.
