Each dyslexic being different from the other, can virtual reality content be mapped with human computer interaction based on the cognitive inclination of the dyslexic? Will immersive technology be helpful in assisting the dyslexic?
In related field named "Cognitive Bias Modification" but not in same application domain is highly dependent on such human computer interaction based on app or games.
Check out the reviews of similar app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tyrske.cbm&hl=en_IN ) on playstore to get the validation and estimate its efficacy.
Also, search on "gamification" of task... Its apt for your intended research.
Based on same principle such apps and interactive software can also be built for the said application.
How do you see VR assisting dyslexic children? It is my understanding that dyslexia often affects how a person reads and writes. Reading words incorrectly and not spelling are two of the most common issues.
I can see having a virtual environment that would allow the child to learn how to read and write in a safe and non-discriminating space. This type of environment would go a long way in helping the child's self worth. I can speak from personal experience that by separating a child into special classrooms and having them attend different classes for a learning disorder harms the child's self worth and they risk falling behind.
For an example, I can see having a dyslexic child use technology that would aid in reading a lesson while remaining in the same classroom as the other children. If all the students in the class were using similar technology, and only the system for the dyslexic child was reading to him/her, the other students would not know the difference.
Thank you Michael Vieau . That's the idea behind this concept. Separate environment is not the solution. Immersive environment with their activities in an interactive platform such as VR might motivate them improve their cognitive skills.
I agree with the concept. Improving their cognitive skills would benefit the learner, however, like most mental issues some things cannot be improved. After improving as much the learner can, it is equally as valuable to learn how to use technology to overcome the issue and even use it as a skill.
If you are willing/able to share, I would be interested in reading any research you have already conducted on the concept.
I have read some papers and based on these I am doing my ground works to take up my research in developing immersive tools for improving their disabilities. Less research is being conducted in the areas of introducing immersive technology in these type of cases. I have a manuscript written but not accepted yet..
These disability issues arises mainly due to the specific regions of the brain inability to process those information.
Taking into consideration the neuroscientific, cognitive studies and psychological aspects can eventually help. Understanding the user and his/her situation is a must in this type of cases to have a full impact on the development process. Because many a times some important things are neglected that has to be taken into consideration. This is a concept I am thinking of to help them.
Because a larger portion of what we do and how we try out and perform task and behave is guided by how the brain perceive situations, things and that is how our perception of the world occurs.
