CCP 1, from FDA, says that is necessary a declaration from supplier that the fruit is from the trees only. It's no fallen fruit. So, is possible guarantee low level of Patulin in apple juice. Did anybody made any evaluation in this point or have any study to confirm?

Indicating that fruit are only harvested from trees (and not collected from the ground) will give no guarantee al all that the juice is free from patulin. As a matter of fact, we detected patulin only in rotten apples - there is also time response (the longer the storage time the higher, in most cases, patulin content of the sample) - and even in not rotten fruit taken from the bin where decayed (and with patulin) apples were present we did not detect patulin. So, in summary, assuring the fruit is not collected from the ground will not give you any clue about the presence of the micotoxin.

Thanks for repling. I agree with your answer. This reinforces my research proposal. FDA regulations define as CCP for Patulin a declaration (to each truck delivery) that the fruits (apples) are from the trees, not from the ground, as way to guarantee Patulin absent. I am looking for scientific research which proves FDA point. Until this moment I could not find anything. My research is take fruits from the ground, goods and damages, and fruits from the trees for Patulin tests, in order to evaluate this CCP and prove that is possible use fruits from the grounds since them are goods.

Hudson, to prove the point to FDA... ok. But I am pretty sure that it is a lot of work to come to a conclusion we already know. We should mention though that, collecting the fruit from the soil is not good because of the possibility to improved decay incidence during storage. So, if these fruit collected from the ground go to storage rooms and stay there for longer periods of time, the possibility to increased decay incidence is real. Therefore we recommend not collect fruit from the ground. Drops on the ground also open small cracks and facilitate the entrance of pathogens. And, of course, you know all about that. Bender, thanks again for your attention. For your knowledge, the objective is evaluate apples to industry and not to storage. I think, I was not clear about my intention. Even though, fruit from the ground to industry could be a problem thinking pathogens. As you mentioned, It's a lot of work until final conclusion.
