Hello everybody,

I am working with the yeast fungal species Candida albicans and would like to test the growth of certain mutant strains on fatty acids as the sole carbon souce. My preferred medium would be:

YNB w/o Amino acids, with Ammoniumsulfate and 1 % fatty acids as the sole carbon source.

So far I was not able to solve the fatty acids in my medium. I tried to add the chemical Methyl-β-cyclodextrin (Sigma-Aldrich) or 1 % EtOH to my media to solve the fatty acids or I added both, but it didn't change anything. Moreover I would prefer to avoid EtOH while Candida can utilize EtOH as a carbon source, too.

Does anyone has an idea how to solve fatty acids in culture medium?

Thanks in advance,

Philipp
