I am using self-determination theory as the theoretical foundation for my study of job satisfaction. I have found great instruments used to measure these concepts quantitatively. Does anyone have suggestions for turning some of the items into qualitative interview questions?
It can be done in a few ways:
1. Using mixed methods
2. Triangulation
In case some of your findings can only be represented in quantitative ways then keep them so. After that formulate themes for an interview guide for those areas which you would like to explore further. That will be the "mixed-method strategy."
In triangulation you may like to validate your findings with further study using a qualitative technique. That means arriving at one point through different points of departure.
Your strategy will depend on your objectives.
You can work with the underlying concept that the items are meant to capture, and use that as the topic for your qualitative question(s).
Quantitative results can be converted in Qualitative data but may not be appropriate, it can be in rise in a question always but can be nearing the results and help in getting the qualitative data as per the feedback shared on surveys & reviews.
