I aim to cultivate a mixed culture of bacteria anaerobically in a medium that contains LCFAs (15 g/L oleic acid and 30 g/L palmitic acid), pH 7.2. The medium contains peptone and fibers as well, and it has been previously autoclaved.
I have noticed that growth is inhibited in this medium for all species, when in the mixed culture, whilst when the species are cultivated individually, inhibition is limited and can be considered negligible. The species that have exhibited the highest susceptibility were the Gram positive Streptococcus sp and Bifidobacterium sp.
Can I overcome this issue by emulsifying the LCFAs, and if yes, how? If not, is there another way?
