I have taken XRD for my Ni-Sn alloy and I have also studied FTIR for Ni-Sn alloy. Now, I want to support the XRD result with FTIR, so can any one help me in doing this.
Actually, In my XRD pattern, it shows Sn phase only, but I am sure there is presence of nickel also in my Ni-Sn alloy so I want to use this FTIR spectrum to support that. So can you help me in this regard....
If an XRD pattern characteristic of Sn was obtained, it does not mean that you have only Sn phase. If Ni makes a solid solution with Sn, then you may have Ni-Sn alloy with structure similar to that of Sn. This depends on the solubility of Ni in Sn matrix and the concentration of Ni. For example, in Fe-Ni alloys, single bcc alpha-Fe phase is observe for the alloy Fe80Ni20, wile single fcc (gamma-phase) is observed at Ni concentrations exceeding 37%, You may have a look at our Fe-Ni publications posted on my list of publication in Research Gate, or on my personal site: http://eacademic.ju.edu.jo/s.mahmood.
Dear Sami Mahmood, thank you for your valuable suggestion I agree with your point, but this concept is correct when we have the same phase. In the case of Ni-Sn alloy, nickel in FCC phase and tin in tetragonal phase, so I want to use some other technique to confirm the presence of nickel using FTIR or Raman
If you have XRF facility, or scanning electron microscope equipped with EDX facility, you can directly check the presence of Ni and its concentration in the sample. I presume the techniques you suggest give indirect evidence of alloying. Why didn't you consider doing FTIR on a standard sample of Sn, and on your alloy, and compare the two spectra?
