Greetings all researchers. I want to simulate the rise of temperature in a tensile test specimen during tensile testing at different strain quantitites and strain rates. What should I do to simulate these conditions? Should I use Abaqus, Marc Mentat, etc. or should I use my own code?
P.s. I'm new at this, any advice would be appreciated.
ABAQUS provides the necessary tools for a thermo-mechanical FEA analysis, which is what you need for your specific problem.
Use a coupled temp-displacement in Abaqus.
Set the inelastic heat fraction as well as plasticity and thermal data for your material.
That will account for plastic heat generation.
@Martin I do not have the inelastic heat coefficient values and actually that is what I am trying to determine. Is there any way to simulate tensile testing for determining this inelastic heat coefficient or Taylor Quinney coefficient?
Do you have good experimental data on the heating up? Then you could simply use an optimization method, i.e. vary the TQ-coefficient until the simulation matches the experiment. (Inverse parameter identification)
