Have mixed Silver nanoparticles (Citrate stabilized) with Hydroxyquinoline and centrifuged at 10000 RPM.
If you want to displace the citrate, add an excess of a competing ligand. Thiols are pretty good candidates as they have a high affinity for silver.
Hydroxyquinoline (HQ, excessive amount) shall be adsorbed on the silver NPs after taking ligand exchange with citrate. I assume the HQ ligand is a short stabilizing ligand so that the Centrifugal force would occur some aggregation of NPs during the spin down due to Ag coalescence. You shall try to find some HQ solubility-dependent separation approaches, e.g two phase solvent or pH. Or an anionic exchange using a positively charged bead-based separation will be an option to remove the outgoing citrate molecules after the ligand replacement.

you may add MUA/GSH to replace citrate molecules, also wash 3-4 times with phosphate buffer to get rid of this problem.
