I synthesised benzothiazole derived Schiff bases and got an yellow colored solution after 3 hour. I spot TLC of the final solution and confirmed product is formed but some amines are still remaining in the product. So how can I get rid of it? Any way to remove extra amine.This extra amine make my product oily. How can I get soild product
Provided that your amine is sufficiently basic, and the is no other basic groups in the molecule, quick wash with 2N aq. HCl should remove the amine; just give it a sodium bicarbonate wash after that to remove the traces of HCl so your Schiff base is not destroyed later.
Try Precipitate formation if your final required product is solid. Dissolve the oily product in minimum amount of polar solvent like ethyl acetate and slowly add more volume of less polar solvent like hexane. It may precipitate out. filter the solid and check. You may get pure Schiff base
One more method take oily product in small RB flask make sure the product should not contain any solvent. Cool the RB flask containing oily product to 5 deg C, then scratch the oily product with spatula inside the RB flask. Sometimes product will start to solidify when you are scratching. Some time by scratching the oily layer you can add small amount of hexane also.
