i want to examine the mineral distribution for exploration purposes using sattelite images (ETM, Aster, hyperion etc.)
but how can i reduce the vegetation effect on my pocessing steps?
as well which mounths of year the vegetaion coverage in a region is at its min level?
berifly i should take ETM or Aster images of whitch mounts to get the best results?
or is there any way to eliminate vegetation effect to get the indicatior spectral signatures of minerals in the region?
does NDVI index a solution for this and how is it utilized ?

There is software that removes vegetation cover. It was used to investigate the Mayan settlements
Dear Andrew, what is this software? But, the Mayan settlements was not investigated with LiDAR data?
You can use NDVI method to extract the vegetation coverage. Then, a threshold value can be considered beyond which the pixels are highly vegetated. The vegetated pixels can be masked. Please follow these steps:
1- Extract NDVI image using ASTER or Landsat data.
2- Use ROI tool in ENVI software (options - band threshold to ROI) to select pixels having NDVI values higher than the specified threshold.
3- Build a mask band using generated ROI: basic tools - masking - build mask - import ROIs
4- Reverse the generated mask band by subtracting it from 1 (calculate "1-b1" image using band math tool (basic tools - band math) where b1 is the generated mask band).
5- mask the data set using the reversed mask band: basic tools - masking - apply mask - select input data - select reversed mask band.
