Are you worried about photobleaching during imaging? If so, I would recommend using a mounting media that contains an anti-fade agent such as p-phenylenediamine (PPD) or n-propyl gallate.
I have also found that all fluorescent labels are not created equal. Newer dyes such as the ATTO dyes or Alexa Fluor dyes are more photostable than FITC or Texas Red. They can be reliably imaged for long periods such as those necessary for acquiring a confocal image stack on a thick tissue section. I have also found that when stored properly the staining in tissue sections can last for months if you ever need to re-take some images.
Could you please give more details about your sections? Which tissue, thickness, fixation method and the fluorophores in your secondary antibodies? Which mouting media are you using currently? Stained slices can last for years, if you correctly plan the reagents you use.
