I have done a DSC-TGA analysis of an inorganic salt. Instead of taking a lesser amount (5 - 10 mg), i have wrongly placed a sample of 20 mg and done a heating up to 500 °C. Due to this the crucible lid is stuck to the crucible. Could anyone please tell me how to remove the lid?
Hi Hakeen, which is the crucible material? Alumina? Pt? In the most of the cases a dilution of an acid (for example HCl) , and ultrasonic could be enough.
I agree with Garcia-Sanchez. I would suggest a following fast heat treatment to blank out (temp according to the crucible material) any eventual accidental adsorbed relic from acid washing
As the crucible is Alumina, you could just put the crucible in a furnace at ~1200C to melt/vaporize the contaminant which is keeping it stuck.
You have to heat the crucible up to 1200C approximately as Dorian mentioned .But you must make sure that the salt which you used to carried out the experiment has made any new materials bonds with the Alumina or not . If that is a case you have to look that particular melting or charring temperature of the bond and do the furnace hating . Finlay you need to do ultrasonic cleaning with relevant cleaning agent .
Thanks a lot to all - Finally i have opened the crucible by dipping in acetone and cleaned with HCL. Going to heat the same in furnace to dry.
