Hello Im newly experiencing fluent and i have to focus on conjugate heat transfer. As i was looking for some studies, i found a mesh file and related tutorial over this issue. I guess it has already been shared but i can share again if anyone wants. it is a 3d chip analysis. When i imported mesh file i was obsessed with the boundary names. Because i could not understand how the geometry was created. I have been familiar only with 2D analysis or 3D analysis(taking volume into account) But I ve never seen a geometry like that. ıt seems as if it is only composed of planes.(3d geometry, but the interior volume is empty) As you can see from the attached pictures there are a lot of planes but i cant see the grid. Anyone can explain this structure ? and how can i create it using the design modeler? Thank you very much

Hello, what you exactly mean by a geometry composed only by planes? If we only talking about the picture you uploaded, I think, you check the domain in Fluent and that is why, Fluent shows you the domain with your grid. It is just a rectangular box.
From the picture, it also can be seen that it is possible to solve the problem in 2D as the length in x-direction is very long compared to the width of the channel but of course, I am just talking by considering the scale in the picture; I might be wrong.

maybe Im making it complex but here is another study. what I get from the term 3d is a volume grid. But from these study I see some planes to which some conditions(wall,porous jump) were implied.if it is a rectangular extrude, how is a mesh applied to it as it involves some planes(wall,porous jump) in it ?
Or likewise, if you open the 3dchip.msh file in your fluent you will get more clearly what I tried to explain. The other geometries that I provide mesh in 3d mode were not in this structure. I was seeing a mesh structure as a grid form on them. But this time what I see on this geometry as a grid form are the planes(xy-yz) crossing each other.
Hi Caglar, it seems that your geometry consists of planar surfaces with nothing inside the domain or to be more precise it is more like a shell where working domain is outer boundaries only. Such geometries are not difficult to create in solidworks. Make hollow object from mere surfaces and export it in 'iges' format to Ansys Workbench. Once imported, you can mesh it in Ansys mesh program.
Hi Shahid, just to let you know, I got some information from senior users of fluent that the model was created with 3d model using three seperate objects (domain,board and chip). Probably, the planes we see are essentially the mesh structure itself. And maybe it is because of its lower mesh quality that we understand it as planes.
