I'm trying to add cases. I have two datasets and they have mostly the same variables. The names are identical and I took the time to go through all of them and make sure the string variables were string variables, that the widths were all the same, that the columns were all the same... it should work! Yet when I go through the drop-downs, the system doesn't match my variables. I checked everything I can think of, so I'm looking for other troubleshooting options. Thanks in advance!
Edit: Reply to the comments below--There are over 1,000,000 cases in each dataset, so I won't be able to copy and paste :(

I assume you're doing it through Data-> Merge Files->Add cases.
Try the rough way: Ctrl+A->Ctrl+C in the "want to copy" dataset and then Ctrl+Z in the destination dataset. Before hitting Ctrl+Z, click on the first cell of the first row after the last case within the destination file (just as you would do in Excel). It should work, if there are not too many cases (over 5000 or so, in which case you must copy parts of your data at once). Make sure however that the number and order of variables are the same in the two datasets. Otherwise it will mess up your data.

Ah, then maybe that's the reason why the " Data-> Merge Files->Add cases" way is not working. Probably SPSS gets stuck.
You could give it a shot with the copy-paste function though. Try with 50,000 - 75,000 cases at once, maybe it will work. And if it does, repeat the process for 20 times (shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes to do so). You may have to wait until the cases get copied. And if SPSS takes more that 1-2 minutes to complete the task, then probably it got stuck and you have to close it, reopen and try with less cases.
