I know there are many different precursor can used to synthesis the same nanoparticle.
But if today I want it to growth on a core nanoparticle, how can I sure it will growth on it, and heterro-nucletion won't happen.
I suggest to make a TEM image. In this case you can see diameter of core and thickness of grown shell.

TEM/HRTEM can help you find the solution to your question. Before and after the desired growth reactions around the core, you can use TEM to find that.

you can use the GISAX analysis for predict the presence of the core-shell nanoparticles and to calculate the diametreof each one.
If your material gives surface plasmon resonance (SPR) than a more simple way is to check using UV- VISIBLE spectroscopy. First check SPR for the seed nanoparticle and than check if there is any SPR shift or damping due to the shell formation on core
