I have prepare the small sample size for SEM. My sample is B thin film on Al Plate (B has thickness about 6 micrometer, Al thickness = 1 mm, sample size = 10cm x 10cm). I need to cut this sample with size (1cmx1cm)What is the method which i can use to do and can save my sample)
The Boron was made by sedimentation process.

If you have a focused ion beam tool (FIB), you this one to make some cuts with subsequent smoother polishing (cleaning cross-section) to obtain a cross-section. However, you need to take care to avoid ion beam damage by a proper choise of voltage and current parameters. Doing so, you can create small cross-sections (a few tenth µm in length) without really damaging your sample.
You clean it by acetone and alcohol. Nothing special. However, the best way to prepare a sample cross-section, even better than the procedure suggested by Dr. Schwarz, is to make a natural cleavage. I have no idea: is your substrate material very brittle or not?
Actually, My substrate is not brittle but I afraid the thin films will be damage . Tomorrow i will try with EDM machine (wire cutting) because the machine in our school need to pour water to reduce the temperature during do experiment (thin film maybe will remove when has water).
I see now your substrate is Al. You can not crack it.
Has solution deposited B very good adhesion to Al?
