In formaldehyde test, there are control solution for 2.5ppm, 5ppm, 10ppm... and so on. But formaline contains maximum 37~38% of gas formaldehyde, how can I make n(number) ppm formaldehyde solution using this?
Please convert your target ppm to percent solution; and use formalin (37% solution of formaldehyde, i.e. 37 gm of formaldehyde/100 ml formalin). Please add necessary amount formalin to distilled water to make the final concentration using the formula: C1V1=C2V2, where C and V are concentration and volume, respectively.
Thats right, please make 1%, and then 0.1% solution (i.e. 37 mg/liter) and finally mix 541 ml of this solution to 459 ml of water to get 20 mg/liter solution.
Note that formalin solution may contain methanol and formalin may polymerize. If you need 20 ppm of free formaldehyde, you have to have high quality (reagent grade) chemicals. Good luck.
