hello, i want to study on germination ecology of weeds at different level of pH. proposed research conducted in laboratory and i want to maintain pH in petri dishes.
Bruce Robin Nyamweha if i add just acid or base in the solution after few hours its change pH it may be 5 to 6 or 5 to 4 i want to maintain ph at 5,6,7,8,9,10 i want to make it constant at specific pH ...... i want ask what type of buffers that i can i add in the solution
You can employ Good's buffer, zwitterionic compounds that are often used in biological applications (such as MES, HEPES, MOPS...). They have a good buffering capacity, low toxicity and are not metabolised quickly like common buffers. You need to study some theory. I can recommend this for further reading: https://www.applichem.com/fileadmin/Broschueren/BioBuffer.pdf and the attached review.
According to sciencing theory that the pure or distilled water has a pH level of 7, which means it is neutral. If you want to increase the pH of water, you must add an alkaline substance, such as baking powder, to it. If you want to decrease the pH of water, you add an acidic substance, such as lemon juice, to it.
