I have been trying to install RASPA for more than a week and although I have tried to follow the steps indicated in the manual (https://iraspa.org/raspa/), I do not understand the instructions regarding the creation of environment variables. Let me clarify, this is my first time trying to install software from a terminal.

export RASPA_DIR=${HOME}/RASPA/simulations/
You probably won't see any "feedback" for this command, but it should set the required environment variable. Then try to proceed with the installation as instructed. Does it work? Do you encounter errors?

Environment variables are variables that are commonly looked up by programs to determine their behavior and to point to directories where required executable files are. You can see the full list of environment variables by entering the command
env
on the command line. The environment variables you see there were set automatically when you open the terminal.
The installation procedure of this software needs a variable called RASPA_DIR that will tell where the software should be installed. The way to set the variable is by the "export" command, or alternatively the "setenv" command. The example given in the manual will most likely work fine; the installation will end up in the directory /home/[your username]/RASPA/simulations.
