How can I get a better resolution so I can better determine where buckling starts? It seems Abaqus automatically determines the number of increments. What does the number of increments depend on?
If you need to buckling load, it is better to carry out purturbaion analysis (buckling Analysis). If you need to find the starting of buckling during nonlinear analysis, you need to describe small applied displacement (ultimat value/100) and ste no. of increment 100. you may also increase this no. if you still couldn't get the statring of buckling.
if you explain more about your problem, then i can help you more.
Sorry, I miss understan your question. In Abaqus Explicit, you can't change increment size cause the program compute the increment siz based on eigen value of each element. if you want to catch when the buckling starts, you need to adjust the history out put to every n increment, where you can change the value of n.
However, if you apply Khaled's solution, then you have to make sure that the time increment is still stable, I do not think that Abaqus guarantees that.
you need to adjust the history out put to every n increment, then your will find where buckling starts, first you will make a standard of buckling start.
