I am planning to implement an econometric analysis of deforestation. I was told that the MODIS data would be more reliable than that of FAO data set, which is available in a format that I would easily use. I was wondering if there is an easy way to acquire the MODIS data and import it to Stata so that I can combine it with other socioeconomic data to be used in the right hand side of my econometric model.

you should convert it into ASCII format, then if it was not compatible you must import it first in EXCEL to save as spreadsheet file.

My background is Economics and I want a variable (like a column in excel) whose values are rate of deforestation for tropical countries. I want this value for a period of about 10 years (annual).
