How can I grow S.pneumoniae (ATCC6305) on blood agar in a way that it does not trigger its autolysins?

I have recently started working with this strain, and have been running into the issue of low viability on the testing plates. Are there any tips I can follow while working with S.pneumoniae (ATCC6305) ?
