Can we get the localized characteristics of a structure from accelerometer data?
I mean FRF and other parameters that give global characteristics of a structure.
I think the accelerometer data contains both the local and global vibration characteristics of a structure.
How can I get the localized information to the default localization of a structure?
If I put a sensor on the bridge and find the FRF then I generally get the global vibration characteristics of the bridge.
But my question was is it possible to get the vibration characteristics of the only the local area where I put my sensor.
Basically my task is to find faults and damages in railways bridges.All the methods can be divided into model based or non model based.
Model based mostly rely on the modal shapes of the bridges but In my opinion getting modal shapes of big structures like bridges from ambient characteristics is really difficult.
So I was thinking of using the second type method which is based on statistical methods where we train a set of health bridges and any outlier /unhealthy bridges are identified if the structure behaves different from the healthy one.(training of the unhealthy damages bridges is generally not possible because one cannot induce damage in the live bridges)
So in the second type I want to localize the fault by training the vibration characteristics of every part of the bridge.So I asked the question how to identify or get the localized characteristics of the bridges parts where sensor is put.Generally the vibration taken from sensors give the global characteristics but I think it will definitely contains the localized vibration characteristics of the part of the bridge were sensor is put. So if I can train the localized characteristics of healthy bridge parts than I think I can localize the faults.
