hello guys, i have modeled a sandwich beam structure which has 3 layers using ABAQUS and exposed it to impact load. right now, i want to get the contact force so that i can plot contact force vs time ... could anyone please tell me how to extract such a force?
Hi.. You have to define the surfaces of impactor and the target first.Then, define the interaction between these surfaces (say its name is 'impactor-target').After that, from history output select interaction as domain and select the the the interaction you have defined above. Then use every n times increment as frequency and inter n = 200. Now you have to go to contact in the box below to selct CFT in the direction of your loading.

you'd better look at the field and history outputs where Abaqus provide all forces needed as an output as Bratislav said. you need to do nothing more I think.
dear, Bratislav Lukic, i want to get the contact force between the target and impactor. however, when i try to get the CFNM at any particular node, i get the CFNM as all zeros... do you have any comment on this? thank you so much
Hi, you can easily find the acceleration of impactor. then by multiply it by the mass,you can have the contact force.
Hi, it is a surface variable. you can output in field history. For example, you can take care of mechanical analysis- nodal quantities such as CSTRESS (contact pressure and frictional stress). Or, you can go mechanical analysis-whole surface quantities such as CFN (total force due to contact pressure), etc.

If you need the exactly force between 2 surfaces that you defined interaction between them. try this approach:
Step> Out-put-field< domain:interaction and choose C-FORCE,contact force
