At our laboratory, we generally suspended the material using suspending agent (e.g. CMC-Na)  if the material was not soluble in water, but if it is soluble I think you can dissolve it in water (if it is stable), so it is nice if you check first the stability of your material in water.

If I already dissolve my bioactive compound in water and administer in to animal, then what is the use of producing nanoencapsulated powder? I can dissolve any formulation of bioactive in water and intubate in the animal.

How could I ensure, I given nanoparticle to the rat?

The aim to make a nanoparticle  is to enhance the solubility and the absorptivity of the drugs, it could be the drugs can be dissolved in water, but has poor absorptivity, so it needs to be formulate into nano particles (liposome, cytosome ) to enhance its absorption.

I absolutely agree with the answers of the colleges. Then, If your material is water soluble you should know the objective of the formulation as nano particles.

mix it with regular diet , mask the taste of nano particles with falvouring agent . I have been successful in this .

Mixing with food is a good option but it is not accurate to study bioavailability. The best solution i think is to use the Torpac minicapsule system  http://www.torpac.com/Reference/Torpac%20Rat%20Guide.pdf (see attachment). The power is put in a minicapsule that is administered into the stomach by gavage. It works very fine.  I dont know the price. Success 

Thanks Dr. Vijay. Mixing with the regular diet is time consuming. If I mix with the diet, I've to feed for long duration and check for deposition. And my aim is to calculate the one day bioavailability. I'll collect blood maximum for a period of 24 hrs at regular interval of time.

Thanks Dr. Akanbi for the Torpac minicapsule attachment. It seems to be a good approach for feed the powder directly in to rat's stomach. I'll check the price.

Did you come across any other method, mainly inexpensive. I seen many researchers using saline, PBS buffer or water only.

I checked google and these two articles advice to pack the drug formulation in sugar or chocolate to make the rat take it voluntary. I did not try it but if the rat likes it, it should work.
