I want to fabricate an electrodialysis module for separation of ions from salty water for research propose (lab scale). Currently, I am looking for the manuals or sources that explain practical procedure for assembly of the module. Is there anybody with related experience?

You need to decide on the number of compartment and the arrangement of ion exchange membrane prior fabricating ED module. the set up of ED module can be found in many papers

What you are interested in? Anions, or cations, or neutral molecules? You can easily remove ions using a salt removal device. There are many different designs for different purposes. However, if you want to separate and measure different anions (or cations), then you need an anion (or cation) IC system.

Thank you for your comments, but my purpose is purification of water rather than analytical measurements. I want to separate anions like chloride. Should I use special membrane for each anion or all anion exchange membrane exchange all anions? In other words, is an anion exchange membrane selective to a special anion?

The most important thing in an electrodialysis module are the membranes. You need cation exchange membranes and anion exchange membranes. You need to choose an electrodialysis membrane supplier. Try the following supplier: Asahi Glass Co. (Japan) www.agc.com. A few years ago they offered me some anion and cation membranes for experimentalpurposes. You also need a electric power supply, (continous current), to build the electrical field in the membrane module.

I agree with Paulo. You need one piece of cation exchange membrane, one piece of anion exchange membrane, and a power supply. However, if you didn't build membrane based device before, it will be challenging. You can read the paper of 'Charge detector for the measurement of ionic solutes' https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20055448, or its patent 'Ion detector and system' https://www.google.com/patents/US8293099, where you can see how it looks like. The charge detector is a salt removal device. In order to measure very weak acids of silicate and borate, I once used a membrane based salt removal device to fully remove the salt in seawater under low flow rates. Good luck!
